Ok John. It is a nice truck tho. High Country. Pretty sure the lady driving isn’t John.

I still don't understand why anyone would opt for in car wifi.

We picked up free wi-fi on a trip by convoying with a greyhound bus. It didn’t last long, though. I couldn’t stick with the speed limit.

it only ads $20 to the payment?
I don’t get it either.

Being kind of ignorant on the matter, if it’s tied to a really comprehensive data plan and works with the truck off, it would make camping and long trips convenient. Stop, turn off the car, break out the laptop or tablet and use it at will. Somewhat easier than tethering with a cell, and not putting batteries at risk - with multiple user support.

Yea but limiting to a truck seems stupid. Being able to tether anywhere with a phone seems so much wiser. If battery consumption is a risk, plug it into the truck...

Mine was part of the package. Depending on your trim line (for GM vehicles) I think it's just there. After a few months you do have to pay a monthly fee to keep it. Is it worth it for me? Probably not. I wonder how many owners opt-in to keeping it after their trial is up?

She's a hooker with full service. Nobody is actually named "John." The stroller is just a contingency plan.

I'm assuming you have both. I've found tethering to an iPhone to be a far bigger PITA than a true Wifi connection. Of course, I'm assuming there's no crazy upcharge, that the car just uses your existing data plan as a piggyback.

There is an extra fee, which is where the confusion comes in for me.
I get it people have loads of expendable cash, but even so I’d invest in a portable hot spot before linking myself solely to a car (which is what I don’t understand why anyone would do it).

Because it makes their truck bad ass obviously.

That’s nuts....I mean, I’d pay $100-$200 as a one-time option for the capability, but locking yourself into a subscription seems ridiculous.

It’s actually a seperate plan through OnStar. $10/month for 1 gig. With that in mind, I get charged $15 for every gig I go over on my phones data plan. So in reality, if I’m connected to it more than my phones data plan it could end up saving me a bit.

For other passengers to use mobile devices. I have Wifi in my cars but by another method. ZTE 890l Jetpack mobile hotspot and a micro USB lighter cord. I can move it car to car and connect up to about 10 devices. When at car shows I’ve hooked it up for a while when friends need something more secure that public access. I just take it in whatever car we are using for a roadtrip and with a wall charger I avoid fees if there is a charge for Wifi at hotels. Works great.

Right, this is my point, hot spot makes where more sense than one car.

The bonus is mine works on a charge for about 5 hrs and I’ve carried it in a pocket with us when site seeing. We always have our own WiFi no matter where we stop and I just switch it on for the few minutes we need it. Can go all day having lunch and looking at maps for a city route or historical places. I never knew how handy it would really be until we bought it.
